CREATIVE DIRECTION & DESIGN

For the last five years, Kaila has been Co-Founder and Chief Creative Officer for Wool, a multidisciplinary design studio focused primarily on interior design, branding, art direction, and creative consultation. She serves as both Principal Designer and Creative Director for all interior design and branding projects, as well as Art Director and Stylist for all project photoshoots and campaigns. All interior design projects feature custom, original furniture and lighting designs by Kaila Niles and her partner, Emily Stacy.

FURNITURE DESIGN

On every Wool commercial and residential interior design project, Kaila Niles and her partner Emily Stacy create original furniture and lighting designs for their clients. This passion has grown into a collaborative design project focused on the production of furniture, lighting, hardware, and art objects that exemplify their vision and brand. The first piece in the collection is a mixed stone side table with two variations, which explores the juxtaposition of texture and material. In all their designs, Kaila and Emily use natural materials in unique and unexpected ways, working with a palette of stone, wood, metal, glass, leather, and natural wovens. This inspiration is at the core of their upcoming lighting collection, to debut in spring 2023.

ART DIRECTION & STYLING

Kaila has been a prop and wardrobe stylist for sixteen years, working with clients such as Restoration Hardware, Pansy, Cost Plus World Market, Google, Jeune Wine, and Commune Regional Wines, among others. As with her editorial interior styling, in her eComm and catalog work, Kaila strives to create an image that is both striking and organic and at once aspirational and relatable. The goal is always to evoke emotion in the viewer through composition, texture, and light. She loves being involved in every aspect of a project, from conception to final touches. One of the highlights in her career as both Art Director and Stylist has been collaborating with other creatives and amazing artists, like photographer Katie Miller, who she worked with on the Chinatown shoot shown here.

BRAND DESIGN & CONSULTATION

As Chief Creative Officer at Wool, Kaila works with brands, small businesses and creatives to create comprehensive brand identities and style guidelines that aesthetically encapsulate the company ethos while setting the foundation for their projected growth and long-term aspirations. From online and brick-and-mortar retail to writers and influencers to natural wine clubs, Kaila has helped clients with new businesses starting at the beginning and established brands looking to rebrand actualize their branding visions. Kaila led brand design for clients such as Wool, Jeune Wine, Mooney, Jam Baby, Vanessa Labi, and Kace Nails.

Jeune Wine is a Sacramento-based online natural wine bottle shop and wine club. Wool handled the entirety of the company’s branding and marketing. From company name, logo, website, and social media creation to the monthly artwork for the wine club, social media content, and all printed materials.

Vanessa Labi is an arts writer, content creator, and social media strategist based in Sacramento and working in the Bay Area. She came to Wool looking to define her brand identity and aesthetic for a new chapter in her career, turning her work into a brand of its own. Kaila led the Wool team from concept to the final deliverables which included new logo, style and color guidelines for web, print, and social media as well as original, collage-style artwork elements that could be used across media platforms and rearranged nearly endlessly.

Jam is both an online retailer and a brick-and-mortar children’s store based in Sacramento selling toys, clothing, and homewares for babies, children, and mothers that are made ethically with organic, eco-friendly materials. With her partner at Wool, Kaila handled both the interior design of the retail space and the rebrand which included a new logo, brand colors, and style guidelines for web, marketing, and signage, as well as new store signage.

Mooney is a since-sold organic baseball cap company. Mooney caps were made of organic cotton, grown in Texas and milled in northern California by Huston Textile Company, sewn in the East Bay. Kaila Niles created the brand name, logo design, website, social media presence and handled all marketing and promotion. Mooney was absorbed by another Bay Area organic apparel company, Pansy.
